In Memorium

Gasp!
It took less than an hour.
The tree crew drove up,
Lifted up, and cut down.

My neighbor
Whose tree it was
Thought it was “messy”.

(See my Nov. 12 blog.)

Goodbye, old friend.
I’ll try to find one like you
To plant this spring.

It was cut down in its youth. They can live a very long time and grow to gigantic proportions. Good luck with your replacement.

But isn't it a great feeling to know you are planting a new tree!

Dear MN and compost
Thanks for visiting.
It wasn't my tree...it was my neighbor's, and I'm pretty heartsick about it.
I didn't even think I was a "tree-hugger" but I guess I am. Ya need some pretty good reasons to justify taking down a perfectly healthy big puppy like that one! Happy new year to you both. Come back again.
hugs.... Jane

It's unfortunate that the tree was cut down. Large trees give a wonderful atmosphere to a neighbourhood. They make it look less like an intrusion on the land, and more settled into the landscape. I love the look of a street with large trees rising above the houses, or meeting over top of the road. Plus they provide a habitat for wildlife. By planting a new tree yourself, you are creating a new landscape for the neighbourhood.

you Guys!!
Thanks for grieving with me....somehow it makes it easier. Often I'd like to choke one of my oaks or my cherry "weed trees." .....but a Metasequoia! sigh.
Ice here tonight.... hope all of you are cozy and warm and snuggling up with your seed catalogues. xxx J
