Cottage Garden

My friend Marylyn has the quintessential cottage garden. She was sure I would claim it as my own … I’d like to! But she deserves accolades for her vision and hard work in achieving the perfect “look” for her home.

For all of its exuberance, the garden itself has a wonderful sense of order when you are in it. The choices are not exotic, but the seed-sources for the plants themselves are choice. And that makes for healthy, hearty specimens. I caught her on a day when she and her husband were ruthlessly roguing out spent blooms and plants, and she assured me that the plants had done their reseeding-best and would be back next year … better than ever.

What you see in Marylyn’s gardens are PERFECT accompanying accessories and hardscaping. She’s been an antiques dealer, so every birdbath, birdhouse, fountain, and piece of sculpture has been chosen with the intent that they will be welcome friends within her space. They complete the feeling of fulsome plenty throughout.

Don’t you wish you could join me in tasting her gourmet cooking under her trees to the tune of her glorious fountain?!
Thanks, my friend, we’ll come enjoy your labors often.

Jane, you have done such a beautiful job ... you MUST continue .. as you are well aware of I am certain, your talents are just in the beginning stages of what you could apply to a book or business. I am thrilled you chose to photograph just a humble gal who loves the outdoors and being creative. Thanks again.
